Simplicity 8216 Pattern Review: Sleeveless Tunic Modification

Today, I’m doing a Throwback Thursday post. I made this top back in June of last year for my trip to the Grand Canyon. I surprised my husband and took him up to our timeshare for his birthday and to see one of the wonders of the world. I knew it was getting a little toasty in Arizona, so I wanted something that would be light and airy for our trip up there. There was an app I used to use, they don’t exist anymore, but they would offer style options that you could purchase in the app. I found this one sleeveless shirt that had a bow tie option that was black and white. They paired it with some jeans and I thought, hey I could make myself one.  Now I finally get to write about it.

Here’s my review of the pattern and what I used:

Pattern Description: Misses’ Mini-Dress or Tunic with Neckline and Sleeve Variations

(Click here to find Simplicity 8216)

Pattern Sizing: I cut a size 14

View: D and the neckline of B

Fabric: Rayon Challis from FabricMartFabrics.com (Not available anymore, but they always have a good sale going on for fabric)

Color: Baby blue, cheetah print (I was feeling wild)

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing it? Yes and no because I made modifications to it.

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I loved the pattern because it was pretty straightforward. The only thing I had trouble with at first was the bias tape on the inside of the armhole.

I never worked with it before so making sure it was even, took some time. That had more to do with my skills that the pattern itself.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I decided not to add the pocket and used the neckline from view B so that I could tie it off.

Would you sew it again? Yes, but I would try a solid color next time so that I could get more wear out of it.

How long did it take? About 1 hour with the cutting and adjustments made.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Thursday.
