Hey Loves!

I know it has been a while. I have been working hard on my craft and health lately so I had to put blogging on the back burner for a minute. Good news is that my health is starting to get under control (yeah Zumba!!) and I am seeing the inches come off. You’ll see in the photos from today’s review. I can honestly say this is my new favorite top. I wanted to create something with a little more edge to it as I wanted to show that I can be edgy not just adorable or cute as I’ve heard most of my life. This was a really easy and quick project even with my modifications. If you have been following me for a while you know I always have to modify something with a pattern. I just don’t follow directions very well. It’s the rebel in me.

The top was created for dancers, but I think you can totally wear this out for a night on the town over a cami. Check out my going out look below.

Here’s my review of the pattern and what I used:

Pattern Description: Misses’ Pullover Top

(Click here to find Simplicity 8424)

Pattern Sizing: I cut out size medium

View: F

Fabric Choice: Mesh knit from Fabric Mart. Unfortunately it’s not available any more but you can find some other cute options here.

Other choices for fabric include Activewear knits, Jersey, Spandex, Stretch Lace, and Stretch Lame.

Color: Maroon floral print

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing it? Yes and no because I made modifications to it.

Are the instructions easy to follow? Definitely!

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I wasn’t a fan of the seam in the middle with a sheer fabric like mine because I didn’t want the seam allowance to show. I also wasn’t comfortable with the mid section being so high since I still have a little tummy so I created a seam straight across. I really loved the styling of the top on the pattern cover because that inspired me to find a mesh knit to create the same sheer look. And I loved the neckline. I find it to be very flattering for my body type.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I removed the high hem in the front and I removed 3/4 seam allowance from the center front and made that the center fold to eliminate the visible seam line in the middle of the shirt.

Would you sew it again? Yes! I want to try another one with iron on vinyl. I’m hoping it will look as neat as I envision and I can wear it to my first live Zumba class. I love dressing up, have you notice?

How long did it take? Just an afternoon that includes cutting out the pattern pieces and making my modifications.
